Time for an update of not-so-exciting alternative careers for law graduates.
The latest addition: the much-ignored court reporter. "The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the number of court reporters will grow by 18 percent over the next eight years, due in part to increasing demand for closed captioning services," reports The National Law Journal. Court reporters, which are 85 percent women, are required to type at least 225 words per minute. That certainly counts me out.
This is just a hunch, but I have a feeling that anything to do with bedbugs will hold a promising future for lawyers. Think contract and commercial work related to companies in the business of ridding those little bloodsuckers. Maybe an IPO for a company that makes a name for itself in this arena. Not to mention litigations that might result from a major bedbug infestation.
Think this is far-fetched? Remember Above the Law reported that Winston & Strawn recently had a bedbug infestation in its New York office at the famous MetLife building, which also houses a number of other big firms, including Gibson Dunn and Greenberg Traurig. Think of the angry clients, lost revenues, ruined reputations.
